North America: California, Dana Point - Laguna Cliffs Marriott

TravelPage.com Rating:Four Stars

Review by Margaret Pearson, TravelPage.com Contributing Editor

A California Resort: New England Style

Overview
The white Victorian hotel surrounded by acres of open space is captivating to see from a distance and up close and personal. But wait, a closer look reveals desert cliffs and the Pacific Ocean rolling in at the hotel's doorstep. Everything you could want in a New England resort complete with ambience is found at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort in Dana Point, California. This recently renovated three-story resort with Cape Cod style architecture offers 300 plus rooms and all the amenities a business or pleasure traveler could possibly want.

Facilities
Three wings of the hotel surround two large heated pools. The rooms are beautifully designed with seascape motifs and warm southern California colors each with it's own private balcony overlooking immaculately landscaped grounds, the Pacific Ocean, and Dana Point Harbor.

The hotel hosts weddings every weekend during the summer. These can be a detraction to the vacationer if you are near a room by the wedding reception as it tends to get a little noisy.

Location, location. The Laguna Cliffs Marriott certainly has it. It is only an hour by car to Los Angeles to the north and San Diego to the south, or to beautiful mountains and wine country to the east. Yet who needs to go any further than a walk down the cliff stairs to Dana Point Harbor or Doheny State Park where restaurants and shops abound. The hotel also offers three walking tour maps of the area and after having done the 2 and 3 mile walks, I can only say the scenery is breath-taking.

There are two fine restaurants on site, the Commodore Cafe and the Regatta Bar and Grille. Sunday brunch at the Regatta is popular and delicious. Coffee and lemonade are complimentary in the lobby daily.

The entire staff is accommodating and provides excellent service. There is either valet or self-service parking. Vacation packages are available and pets are welcome.

This is one southern California hotel worth your while! Enjoy the New England atmosphere with the marvelous year round California weather.

activities
The hotel has nice work-out facilities, 3 massage rooms and steam and sauna rooms. For the business traveler, there are numerous conference facilities and settings from working lunches by the pool to large meeting site rooms.
